Ham and Cheese (two of the most accessible and delicious ingredients on this earth) have collaborated literally billions of times over the centuries, and to great effect. But their finest hour? Their best work? Just ask John Montagu, the 4th Earl Of Sandwich, and the eponymous inventor of his namesake and this wonderful combination. He’s dead, so you can’t ask him, but trust us, was on to something.
You know what they say, don’t you. “Nine glazed then baked ham and cheese buns is better than one”. At least, I think that’s how the phrase goes. Anyway, if you follow this recipe below very closely, you’ll understand. Godspeed.
What You’ll Need:
- 9 Slider buns
- 6 slices cooked ham
- 12 slices emmental
- 50g Grated emmental
- 50 melted butter
- 1 tbsp white onion, finely diced
- 1 tbsp dijon mustard
How You Make It:
- Carefully cut through your slider buns, leaving both top and bottom bread sections intact. Pop the bottom half in a tray that fits them snugly. Lay down half of your emmental slices, then your ham, the rest of your cheese and finally the top half of your buns.
- Mix together the butter, onion and mustard in a bowl, then brush the mixture all over the top of your buns. Top each individual bun with a little pinch of grated emmental.
- Bake in the oven for 20 minutes at 180/350ºF.
