Cheese and wine is normally a refined affair. No one ever finishes a late night McDonald’s or a dodgy kebab and has a sudden hankering for Bordeaux and brie. However, just because it tends to be sophisticated doesn’t mean that cheese and wine can’t be enjoyed by everyone. There’s no need to be snobby about something so delicious.

Getting post dinner posh digestifs off their dietary high horse, all-American cheesy biscuit brand Cheez-It has come up with a novel way to revolutionise the classic combo. Their latest release features a mixture of original Cheez-It crackers and a box of red wine, providing a portable solution to cheese and wine loving picnickers everywhere.

The product is being pitched as an unpretentious solution to the problem of what to have as an adult snack. As the official website says, “No corkscrew? No knife? No fridge? No expensive hunk of wood referred to by fancy people as a “charcuterie board”? No problem. This pack has everything you really need for your wine and cheese spread: wine and Cheez-It.”

Though the Cheez-Its are certainly noteworthy, the real headliner is the wine - specifically created by House Wine. A blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon and 50% merlot, House Wine have given considerable thought to the combination. According to Insider, the brand’s winemaker Hal Landvoigt has said that “the red currant and fruit flavors of House Wine's original red blend complemented the cheesy flavor of Cheez-It's original baked crackers.”

Perhaps surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that Cheez-It have been the subject of a wine pairing debate. In 2018, popular New York dining website Grub Street published a blog suggesting suitable Cheez-It combinations, while famed online food publication Eater have previously quizzed a sommelier on their ideal Cheez-It and wine serving suggestions. Clearly, the product is not as far fetched as it might seem.

Despite the excitement, it seems that fans will have to move quickly if they want to get their hands on a box. The product is described as “limited edition”, and sales are scheduled to begin on July 25th at 5 o’clock. Here’s hoping that fans are able to grab one before they’re all gone.
