For as long as many of us can remember, Christmas has been about one thing. People around the world have been bound by the incredible story of a chosen one, born with special powers and destined to defeat evil and ultimately save the whole of humanity. For a while, we lost our trust in the power of this remarkable tale. Thankfully, faith has been fully restored. We’re talking, obviously, about Star Wars.
The world’s most successful space saga is so much more than a movie series. Over the years it has inspired spin-offs, a religion and more merch than Santa could ship if he had an armada of reindeer. Now, in 2019, the marketing guru’s at Disney HQ have decided to sink their teeth into the cooking sector. The results are spectacular.
For the first time ever, shoppers can get their hands on a series of Star Wars-themed Insta Pots. Exclusively available at Williams Sonoma, the pots come in five separate editions, including a six-quart R2-D2, Stormtrooper, and Darth Vader; a small three-quart BB-8; and an enormous eight-quart tribute to Chewbacca. The pots don’t come cheap, retailing at $80, $100 and $120 respectively, but when the cookware is this cool, price is no objective.
Though the Instant Pots are certainly the most eye-catching members of the Williams Sonoma range, they aren’t the only Star Wars gadgets on offer. Also available are slightly more affordable accessories like the Death Star Toaster and R2-D2 popcorn maker, both of which will be augmented by the arrival of a Han Solo Carbonite Roaster and a Porg Pie Bird next year. What a time to be a Star Wars foodie.
Obviously, the aesthetic is front and centre of any Star Wars-inspired gadget, but it’s worth noting that the Insta Pots are actually pretty useful in and of themselves. Packed with seven functions including pressure cooking, slow cooking, rice cooking, steaming, sauteing, yoghurt making, and a warming option, they’re much more than a convenient way to irritate Trekkies. They might be pricey, but the prospect of steaming veg inside BB8 is surely worth it.
