Man admits to secretly feeding his vegan girlfriend dairy to test whether it would give her acne

Eating exactly the same thing as your other half isn’t an absolute deal breaker. The world is full of happy couples who can’t stand each other’s cooking, and for whom the idea of sharing a plate is like asking someone if they want to watch their family get murdered. While it can’t hurt to have similar tastes, identical meals aren’t the be all and end all of a successful relationship. This being the case, it’s important to respect what your partner does and doesn’t decide to eat. Anything less spells trouble.

Although this situation might seem fairly obvious to almost everyone on planet earth, there are apparently some partners who are yet to get the message. A perfect example of this is the almost impossibly ignorant Reddit user kitchenninja111. In a post shared on the chatboard-based website, the unidentified man admitted to deliberately giving his vegan girlfriend milk in order to test whether it would give her acne.

Written as part of the site’s “Today, I Fucked Up” series, the anonymous boyfriend confessed, “I’ve been dating my GF for three years. A while before I met her, she went vegan basically for health reasons. Mostly she swears that it cleared up her skin - from pictures, it seems she went from really gnarly acne to very clear skin. Now, I thought this might be due to her age - teenagers get acne and it goes away yeah, hers just went away a bit late. And now that we’re living together, I’ve been getting tired of all the vegan food (I do the grocery shopping but she does all the cooking). She’s a great cook but sometimes a man just needs some mac and cheese with cut up hot dogs. So I thought I would prove to her that the whole ‘dairy gives me acne’ thing is in her head. For the past two months I’ve been emptying the same soy creamer container and filling it with dairy creamer.”

Predictably, the story got even worse from here. Rather than reveal that the condition was purely psychological, the man discovered that his girlfriend’s acne had returned with a vengeance. At the end of his post, kitchenninja111 conceded, “Last night I saw her barefaced for the first time in a while and it is BAD. Like insects about to hatch out of her face bad.” He eventually decided to “just quietly throw out the dairy and her skin will go back to normal… I feel bad but on the other hand I was doing it for her own good!”

Predictably, the internet was not impressed with the story. One commentator labelled kitchenninja111 “not just an asshole, (but) actually a bit of a monster” after so emphatically betraying his partner’s trust. Another added, “You also could have made her horrendously sick! If she’s been vegan for years and you gave her animal products then she could have gotten extremely ill. Please never do that again.” One can only hope that the self proclaimed kitchenninja111 thinks twice before doing something so duplicitous in the future.
