Cheeseburger Pastitsio

  1. Heat your oven to 200C/400F.
  2. Heat your oil in a large sauce pan over a medium heat. Add your onion and fry until soft and starting to caramelise. Add your garlic, cook out for 1 min then add your beef mince. Fry for 3 mins until browned, then add your passata. Simmer for 20 mins.
  3. Add your ketchup, mustard, pickles, salt and pepper and stir to combine. Keep warm.
  4. Melt your butter in a large saucepan. Add the flour and cook out for 1 min. Gradually add your milk in small increments, beating all the while to prevent lumps from forming. Once you have a smooth sauce, bring to a boil and then simmer for 2 mins.
  5. Add your cheddar, nutmeg, eggs, salt and pepper. Stir to combine and set aside.
  6. Cook your bucatini to al dente and leave to cool slightly. Add your eggs and parmesan and stir to combine.
  7. In a greased baking dish, lay your pasta mixture. 
  8. Pour your meat mixture on top of the pasta and sprinkle your grated cheddar over it.
  9. Pour your béchamel over the top in a thick layer. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  10. Bake for 30 mins until the top is golden and bubbly.
  11. Garnish with burger sauce and shredded lettuce. Serve!
