Americans are trying jacket potatoes for the first time after a viral TikTok, and their reactions are amazing.

Yep, the humble jackie p is a UK staple, enjoyed slathered with cheese, beans, coleslaw or tuna mayo, among other delicious toppings.

But over in the States, such a delicacy is lesser known, and dare we say, even considered odd.

That's all changing, though, after TikToker Brittany Miller shared her baked potato dinner, and caught the eye of many people living Stateside.

"I love jacket potato so much," she says in the video as she cuts into a perfectly crisped spud, straight out of the oven.

"Oh my god, these are so crispy, what the hell?!"

Brittany then explains that to get her potatoes as deliciously crispy as they are, she bakes them with a good glug of olive oil on top.

She also sprinkles salt and garlic on the top – a nice addition, not unfamiliar to many a Brit.

Brittany can then be seen dolloping butter on top of her jacket potatoes (and a very generous amount, at that), mashing it into the potato for the ultimate, indulgent filling.

Then on went the cheese – a whole load of Red Leicester grated on top. Nothing crazy to see here, right?

The video gets interesting from this point on as we see her tip a delicious looking cauliflower and broccoli cheese on top of each spud, too.

Béchamel drizzles galore... why have we never thought of this?

Finally, she chops spring onion on top of the potatoes, and serves them with a side salad and a corn on the cob. Yum.

After the pretty epic response online, Brittany went on to share a bunch more variations of jacket potato recipes, each receiving equal acclaim.

"Whatever a jacket potato is I need it," said one person in the comments of the video.

Whilst another wrote: "I thought that was a damn bun".

"Need to have a British dinner," said a third. Too right ya do!

As the video went viral, a bunch of Americans started making jacket potatoes on their own personal TikToks, too.

TikToker @w.ads was one such individual, but she topped it with quintessentially British (but not so common) toppings like sausages, beans, and onions.

“That's great. I like it a lot. As Brittany would say, unreal," she said after trying her creation, nodding to the British TikToker's trademark enthusiastic responses.

Fellow US video maker Wishbone Kitchen also recently jumped on the hype, telling viewers: Jacket potato is apparently what the Brits call a baked potato."

She also makes hers differently from most Brits, topping it with sour cream and short ribs.

Meanwhile, user Brooke Applegate also posted a video making a baked spud, and it's safe to say she was a fan.

“Last night I went down a rabbit hole on English cooking TikTok," she said. "And I learnt about the jacket potatoes, and probably watched like 20 TikToks...

She topped hers with butter, cheese and beans and gushed: “It literally feels like a warm hug, like this is what I needed. Look at that for the cheese."

Yaas, we love a jacket potato convert. If you haven't tried one, what are you waiting for?
