7 delicious discontinued food and drink items that we wish we could bring back

As the world has learned to up it’s snack game, we’ve seen all sorts of weird products come go over the years. Many of these ideas were too stupid to possibly have a hope of succeeding, and deservedly died a death. A select few however, were perhaps judged a little unfairly by their audiences. Some of these delicious discontinued foods and drinks were just a little too far ahead of our time.

Taking a trip down memory lane, we reveal a few of our favourite snacks that, sadly, are no longer available to the general public. Despite having dedicated fans all over the world, these yummy treats have been forever consigned to the trash heap of history. May they rest in peace.

1. Doritos 3D

Truly a crisp before their time. Before executive bigwigs decreed that the world wasn’t yet ready for a non-triangular Dorito, there were a few years where we got to enjoy these weird conical puffs of corn. As if the shape wan’t unorthodox enough, Doritos 3D lids served a double function as a bowl. In times like these, this is exactly the sort of thinking we could do with more of.

2. Dunkaroos

A packet of cookies that came complete with their own supply of separate vanilla icing should have been a sure fire success. Indeed, for most of the 90s, Dunkaroos dominated lunch boxes everywhere. Why the powers that be at General Mills decided that this winning combination needed to be removed from supermarket shelves remains an unhappy mystery.

3. Oreo O’s

In a world where Cookie Crisp and Krave are among the most popular cereals on the market, it seems strange that there was no place for arguably the world’s most popular biscuit. For the brief time that they were on the breakfast table, Oreo O’s were easily one of the most awesome ways to wake up in the morning.

4. Crystal Pepsi

Now only a rumour on internet messaging boards and viral YouTube videos, Crystal Pepsi is easily one of the most mystifying soft drinks ever produced. Thanks to fanatical revival attempts from fans, the drink has been re-released several times over the years, though it has yet to recapture the magic that it had in the early 90s.

5. McDonald’s Fried Apple Pie

The McDonald’s Apple Pie is and always will be an iconic fixture in the fast food hall of fame. However, the dessert will never be the same after the cooking method was fundamentally changed in 1992. Replacing the old frying method with baking was supposed to appeal to the growing health food movement, but failed to recreate the flavour of the original.

6. Reese’s Peanut Butter and Banana Cream

He may have been dead since the 70s, but the influence of Elvis Presley can still be felt today, not least in our food. As an homage to The King, Reese’s created the extraordinarily delicious Peanut Butter and Banana Cream chocolate bar – a double dose of flavour that would have surely done Elvis proud.

7. Original Creme Eggs

Cadbury’s Creme Eggs have been an integral part of childhoods everywhere since they were first introduced in 1971. However, since 2015, there’s been something strange about the sweet that’s been almost impossible to put a finger on. It turns out that Cadbury’s altered the recipe and no longer encases the egg in Dairy Milk – blasphemy to die hard egg fans everywhere.

They often say that you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone, and of course it’s easy to look on long lost snacks with rose tinted spectacles. But, with the world in so much trouble, it’s tempting to think that we’d all be better off if we just had access to a few of our favourite foods once again. Maybe world peace is easier than we think.
