9-year-old girl fills empty lip balm tube with cheese to eat during class

A good idea can come from the most unlikely of places. It doesn’t matter who comes up with a brilliant plan or awesome concept: it’s the creativity behind it that matters most. A 92-year-old could come up with the best grime album you’ve ever heard. A teenager could invent something that could change the world. And this week, a 9-year-old came up with a genius hack that everyone on social media is now talking about.

Meet Valerie Schremp Hahn. Valerie is a reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and has two kids who are both pretty innovative: a 12-year-old son, and a nine-year-old daughter.

This week, Valerie uploaded a picture of one of her daughter’s inspired inventions, which allows her to indulge her love of cheese to her heart’s content. It’s a simple plastic tube which usually contains lip balm, which Alice filled with a perfectly-fitting cylinder of cheese so she could snack away while at school.

Valerie uploaded a picture of the hack to Twitter, and captioned it simply: “My 9-year-old daughter has taken an old lip balm tube and filled it with cheese so she can eat it in class … My mom (her grandma) just posted on FB: ‘This kid is going places! Maybe to the principal’s office, but she’s going places!’ [sic]”

Valerie added: “Calm down, people calling me a cheese narc. They can bring snacks to class. I was sharing the funny story with her teacher. (They don’t pay them enough!) [sic]”

Valerie later posted an update on the situation, writing: “I picked her up from school. Her teacher saw my note and thought it was hilarious but did not detect the 2 (!) cheese tubes she snuck bites/licks of during standardized test breaks. Also, she loves the positive tweets, especially ones saying ‘the future is female.’ [sic]”

Valerie also later posted an image of an awesome invention of her son’s: a robotic arm! You know, I have a funny feeling that those kids are going to do great things when they grow up. Perhaps they’ll invent the first teleporter? We’ll just have to wait and see…
