“Baby Yoda Frappuccinos” are now a thing

As anyone with access to the internet will be all too aware, a small green alien has taken over the zeitgeist. Even in a year where we’ve seen Thanos fight everything and The Lion King get a slightly sinister “live-action” update, none of the other pop-culture big hitters have come close to capturing the public’s imagination like Baby Yoda. Disney’s “The Mandalorian” was already hotly anticipated before audiences found out that an adorable, moss-coloured Furby was going to be involved. Now the situation is out of control. 

As is always the case when something cute starts to dominate popular discourse, all sorts of companies that have nothing to do with the subject matter are trying to jump on the bandwagon. This is just as true for the food and drink sector as it is for anyone else. And, true to form, one of the industry’s big guns has gone on the attack in a bid to cash in on the cuddliest thing to happen to the galaxy since Ewoks.

In honour of the tiny, bat-eared baby, several eager Starbucks customers are reporting a new “secret menu” item, dubbed the “Baby Yoda Frappuccino”. Featuring a bright green base, a brown drizzle of caramel and a whipped cream topping, it’s as fitting a tribute as any to the cuddliest creature of the year.

The drink itself, as it’s not an officially sanctioned Starbucks product, comes courtesy @totallythebombdotcom, who pride themselves on topical coffee creations. In an explanation provided by fellow Instagrammer @markie_devo, the steps for making a Baby Yoda frap are as follows:

“1. Start by asking for a matcha green tea Frappuccino ..2. Ask to add caramel drizzle to the cup (this will be Baby Yoda’s cloak)..3. Top off with whipped cream, caramel and caramel ribbon crunch crunchies(not sure if caramel crunchies are even available, but if they are sweet).”

While acknowledging that creating the coffee might take some careful explanation to an exasperated barista, @markie_devo also stresses, “This is fun for the little and big kids, let’s just hope the Baristas can find it in their hearts to forgive us LOL.” It might be frustrating, but it’s certainly an effective way to make your frapp more interesting.
