Barq’s is making 100-calorie popsicles that taste just like a root beer float

In the hot summer months, there are few sweet treats as satisfying or delicious as a root beer float. Seriously, I have no earthly clue whose bright idea it was to drop a scoop of ice cream into a glass of root beer, but for some reason, it works.

Don’t ask me how, but it does. The only problem is, it’s pretty much impossible to drink/eat one of these confectionary/beverage treats on-the-go. At least, it’s hard to do without spilling half a pint of icy cold root beer all down your front.

Which is why a team of candy geniuses working for the root beer and soda company Barq’s have come up with the perfect solution that’s a great treat for the summer. Namely, root-beer-flavoured ice-cream popsicles.

Yes, you heard that right. The root-beer ice-cream float popsicles can be found in packs of either 24 or 100 in a number of retailers, including We’ve Publix, Jewel-Osco, Price Rite and ShopRite. Every individual tube of sweet goodness consists of a mixture of Barq’s classic root beer, alongside delicious vanilla ice cream, all wrapped up in a tube just like a Calippo. What’s not to love, right?

So where did root beer floats come from anyway? Well, they were first invented back in 1874. The ice cream float was invented in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by a man named Robert McCay Green. During the Franklin Institute’s semicentennial celebration, he ran out of ice for the drinks he was selling and used vanilla ice cream to keep them cold instead.
