Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte is the king of Autumnal coffees. Over the years, it has become such a popular seasonal staple that fans have campaigned for it to become a permanent fixture, and even pestered the company’s HQ to have the run extended. Every time the chain announce its reappearance on the menu, it’s a big deal. Now however, it looks like the daddy of all spicy drinks is about to have some serious competition.

In a brazen attempt to muscle in on Starbucks’ patch, rival coffee cooperation Dunkin have decided to add some spice of their own. The American-based brand have announced that, from August 21st, they will be selling a Cinnamon Sugar Pumpkin Latte, putting them directly up against one of the biggest products in the coffee business.

The new lattes will be available in both hot and cold varieties, retailing at $3.69 and $4.19 respectively for a medium-sized cup. All versions will come topped with whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel sauce and a liberal sprinkling of cinnamon sugar, all on top of a specially created new spiced pumpkin-flavour espresso. Sounds like Starbucks are about to be put to the test.

It’s not just the coffee that is getting a pumpkin-centric makeover at Dunkin’. According to Insider, the chain is planning to “cater to pumpkin superfans by rebranding eight stores across the country as ‘Pumpkin” shops on Wednesday.”

Though the locations of these pumpkin pop-ups have yet to be revealed, each will offer “a free small hot or iced pumpkin-flavored coffee to its first 250 guests of the day as well as pumpkin-scented Munchkins.” While traditional coffee lovers might roll their eyes, for fans of pumpkin spice, 2019 is already setting up to be a stellar season.
