Florida farmer grows incredible avocados that are three feet long

Ever since we discovered the magical combination of brunch and Instagram, avocados have been the most in demand fruit on the planet. Meal times and social media feeds just aren’t the same without a serving of something smashed and bright green. Even in Britain, where the best breakfasts are almost exclusively painted in various shades of brown, pink and orange, we’ve begrudgingly accepted that even the tiny wrinkled avos in our supermarkets are actually pretty awesome. However, as recent activity on the internet has proven, there’s a whole lot more to avocados than you might think.

The farmers at Floridian enterprise Miami Fruit have found fame after photos of their bizarre avocados have made waves online. Unlike ordinary avocados, Miami Fruits’ extraordinary produce grows to an incredible three feet in length. Christened “long-neck” avocados, the fruits look as though someone managed to mix the genetic blueprint of guacamole and a giraffe. They are, in every way, amazing. 

Writing on social media, Miami Fruit have stated “The avocados are popping off right now! South Florida farmers grow dozens of unique varieties not common in any other part of the mainland USA. This is a long neck avocado grown right here in Miami! It is 100% non-gmo and organic.” They also added that many fans “even travel the world looking for seeds to bring back to the states to try to grow. This variety in particular originated in Nicaragua and is now grown small scale here in South Florida by fruit enthusiasts.”

However, despite the unique fruit’s enduring online popularity, there is disappointing news for would-be purchasers. The company confirmed that these specific avocados are “not commonly found in the grocery store because this variety in particular is not grown commercially.” Even though they would doubtless be a popular choice, we may have to wait a while before long-necks make it onto supermarket shelves.
