Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Turning soup solid typically involves a massive freezer and ruining what should be a delicious, heartwarming dinner. Not if you’re Lay’s. The world’s most famous crisp company has come up with a cunning way to capture the essence of an iconic soupy, comfort food combination and turn it into a potato-based snack. Will it work? Who cares. All we know is that “Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup” potato chips sound amazing.

Starting from October 21st and for a limited time only, the new flavour will be available in stores across the United States. Exactly how long the promotion will last is unclear, but according to Delish, the crisps will retail for around $3.49 per 7.75 oz. bag.

According to a press release provided by Lay’s to accompany the announcement, the new crisps will deliver an exciting combination of “tomato taste and buttery cheese with underlying creamy and toasted notes…all in one bite.” Say what you like about strange crisp flavours, the soup and sandwich combination sounds out of this world.

The prospect of amazing comfort food in crisp form isn’t the only exciting thing on the Lay’s agenda this autumn. The company has also announced a new initiative dubbed Gotta Have Lay’s, where contestants can enter a competition to potentially win a whole year’s supply of potato chips.

All you have to do to take part is upload a photo of yourself on GottaHaveLays.com when the competition opens on October 21st, and the company will select five winners at random every day until 200 winners have been chosen. That means that 10,000 bags of chips are potentially up for grabs, provided you’re one of the lucky few. What a time to be alive.
