Häagen-Dazs have just announced an all new line of alcoholic ice cream

If something particularly disastrous has happened, like the end of a long relationship or watching your football team lose a crucial game, there are usually two edible solutions. For those well versed in tragedy, these are invariably ice cream or alcohol. Under ordinary circumstances, bereaved diners have to choose between one or the other, or else settle for a semi-frozen creamy puddle that only ends up making everything feel more depressing. Now, however, there is another way.

The perennially luxurious ice cream purveyors at Häagen-Dazs have decided to unleash a new range of alcoholic frozen desserts on the world’s mourning shoppers, creating seven new flavours based on famous cocktails and spirits. Landing in freezers at some point in April, the tubs contain less than 0.5% alcohol by volume, meaning that you don’t need to be over 18 in order to get your hands on some.

The new range will be a far cry from traditional booze and ice cream combos like rum and raisin, and will feature new flavours like Irish Cream Brownie, Rum Tres Leches, Bourbon Vanilla Bean Truffle, Stout Chocolate Pretzel Crunch, Bourbon Praline Pecan and Non-Dairy Amaretto Black Cherry Almond Toffee. There will also be Irish Cream Cookie Squares, for those who prefer their ice cream as a bite-sized snack rather than on a spoon.

Speaking to Insider after news of the flavours was announced, brand manager Rachel Jaiven said, “We’re thrilled to launch the Häagen-Dazs Spirits Collection. It’s an incredible combination of fine spirits and our rich, creamy ice cream to create the perfect indulgence.” She went on to add, “I’m particularly excited about Irish Cream Brownie. It’s inspired by our prior Irish Cream flavor, which is one of the most requested ‘bring back’ flavours — it’s kind of like an adult version of brownies a la mode.”

Of course, the new flavours aren’t the first time a well-known ice cream maker has ventured into alcoholic territory. In fact, brands such as Tipsy Scoop only specialise in alcoholic offerings, whilst Häagen-Dazs themselves have previously released limited edition varieties such as Rum Vanilla Caramel Blondie and Whiskey Chocolate Truffle in Canada.

However, despite their history, Häagen-Dazs claim that their latest releases are a totally different animal to what has gone before. As a second representative told Insider in the build up to the launch, “the latest alcohol-infused creations were inspired by craft cocktails and the brand’s popular ice cream flavors,” rather than relying on old, recycled ideas.

The new tubs will be retailing for $5.29 and will be available across the United States imminently. If $5.29 sound like a sizeable investment, just remember that, with alcoholic ice cream, you are essentially killing two birds with one delicious stone.
