Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

When it comes to the subject of doughnuts, there’s no brand that inspires as much loyalty as Krispy Kreme.

There’s nothing better than a box of those icing-sugar-coated delicacies along with a hot cup of coffee. But now, in honour of a very special occasion in world history, Krispy Kreme is about to make a historic move of their own.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing this summer, Krispy Kreme has decided to begin selling kreme-filled versions original glazed donuts for the first time. That’s right: original glazed donuts stuffed with yummy Kreme filling.

On the outside, they look nearly identical to the classic donut, but inside you’ll find all this wonderful gooey sugar, or a tasty chocolate sauce instead. The kreme-filled originals will join the brand’s permanent menu from Monday, June 17 onwards, and Krispy Kreme is even making the magnanimous decision to give them away for free! They’re handing out more than one million free doughnuts on National Doughnut Day this year!

Commenting on the update in a recent statement Krispy Kreme’s chief marketing officer Dave Skena stated: “Krispy Kreme was at the launch of Apollo 11, serving fresh doughnuts to Americans witnessing liftoff of this monumental mission.”

He added: “As America prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, we want to give our fans a new taste experience that is out of this world … We choose to fill our Original Glazed doughnuts, not because it is easy, but because it is hard (no disrespect intended, JFK). Actually… it’s not hard, it’s melt-in-your-mouth delicious.”

I guess this move is one small step for pastries, one giant leap for donutkind…
