Krispy Kreme offers a free dozen doughnuts to any student about to graduate

In any other year, the start of summer would be the time when most final year students start to smell post-dissertation freedom. Long days spent camped in the library/frantic hours of desperately scribbling something that should have been written months ago would soon give way to long, lazy weeks where Mondays, Fridays and Sundays all become indistinguishable. Unfortunately for many of us, the homogeny of what was once the working week is still a thing, just for all the wrong reasons.
Thanks to the intervention of a nefarious pile of goo, the class of 2020 are set to have a slightly unusual graduation. Exams and essays have been thrown up into chaos and the prospect of communal hat-hurling celebrations seems about as likely as the coronavirus being cured by a crack team of Boris Johnson, Donald Trump and the DJ who just hosted a “Rona Rave”. Still, even though the near future looks far bleaker than anyone could have predicted at the start of the academic year, students still have something to be excited about.

To stand in solidarity with the confused student community, wildly popular doughnut merchant Krispy Kreme has stepped in, giving everyone something to smile about. According to a recent press release, the brand has decided to supply every student who was set to graduate with a free dozen doughnuts. Granted, it might not make up for a degree, but a win is a win.

As stated in the press release:
“On Tuesday, May 19, Krispy Kreme will give its new “Graduate Dozen” FREE to any high school or college senior – no purchase necessary – who visits a Krispy Kreme dressed in their graduation cap and gown or “Class of 2020” shirt, letterman jacket or other swag. Fans can also purchase the new assorted dozen, which spells out “2020” in three rows, May 18-24 via drive‑thru and by ordering online at Krispy Kreme’s website or app for door-side pickup or delivery.”
Flavours available as part of the offer include Chocolate and Strawberry Iced Filled Rings, plus Cake Batter filled and Yellow Iced Original Glazed. Discussing the motivation behind the promotion, Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for Krispy Kreme, added:
“We feel for all of the high school and college seniors. We wish they had that moment of walking across the stage and getting their diploma. We can’t replace that … but we thought we could help them safely have a little fun and enjoy a special ‘Graduate Dozen’ on us. Moms, dads, friends and family can buy this ‘Graduate Dozen’ all week long to honour their favourite graduates, but only seniors can get one for free.”
Summer 2020 is going to be a weird one for all of us – regardless of when and if you plan to graduate. Touch-wood that there are a few more big-name-brands out there willing to give the rest of us something to look forward to.
