Man buys all the chicken in a fried chicken shop so woman who called him fat can’t get any

Fat shaming in any situation should be discouraged, but it’s very rare that the perpetrators actually suffer any consequences. One of the under-appreciated repercussions of society’s unhealthy attitude to weight is how easy it is for people to be casually insulting. However, as a man in Indonesia recently proved, you don’t have to sit and take it if someone says something horrible. It is possible to fight back.

Last week, Frederico Hill was waiting in line at a fried chicken restaurant in Southeast Asia, in front of a mother and her child. Hill was minding his own business, when he began to overhear what was being discussed behind him. According to Hill, the mother was using him as a warning against eating too much fried chicken, telling her child limit his portions, lest he end up looking like Hill.

Hill relayed the story in a lengthy Facebook post, writing, “(I heard) a mother behind me muttering to her whining children that “he can only eat 1 pc, no more than that or you’ll end up fat like uncle (me) in front [sic].” Rather than carry on with his business, Hill decided that it was time to teach the family a lesson.

As he tells it, upon hearing what was going on behind him, Hill “asked the clerk if all the chicken on display is all they had left, they said yes and the other batch is still cooking,” adding, “i said to the clerk [I wanted] to buy all of it, paid, and walk away slowly when the mother come up to the register the clerk explained that they’re out of chicken and she needs to wait for 30 minutes. her kid keeps whining she was angry and upset. she then looked at me frowning I just flipped her the bird and turned to went home [sic].” As if anyone was in any doubt as to his motivations, Hill stated, “i just bought this chicken out of spite…”

While Hill’s reaction was undeniably petty, it’s clear from his post that it was also incredibly satisfying. He concluded his story by stating, “now im Rp 240k poorer and have 15 pcs of chicken cause of spite but seeing the look of her face and her kid is priceless [sic].” Fat shaming might be worryingly acceptable in many cases, but Hill’s story proves that, whoever you are, you aren’t always going to get away with it.
