The rumours are true: the cult-favourite breakfast item, McGriddles, are officially coming to Golden Arches across the UK and Ireland.
After years of fans asking for the sweet-and-savoury breakfast sandwich to make its way across the Atlantic, McDonald's has confirmed it’s finally landing on menus this month.
For the uninitiated, the McGriddle is one of McDonald’s most iconic US breakfast items, known for its unusual, but genius, combo of flavours.
Instead of a regular bun, the sandwich is made with two maple-infused griddle cakes, creating that sweet-meets-savoury flavour fans can’t get enough of.
The version launching in the UK will be the Sausage & Egg McGriddles, which includes a seasoned sausage patty, a freshly cooked free-range egg and a slice of cheese, all sandwiched between those signature maple griddle cakes.
The contrast between the savoury filling and the lightly sweet pancakes has helped the sandwich build a massive following in the US, where it’s long been a staple of the McDonald’s breakfast menu.
Now, customers in the UK and Ireland will finally get the chance to see what the hype is about when it lands in restaurants on Tuesday, 17th March.
As the news broke online, it's safe to say people were excited.
"McGriddle???? OMFDays!!!! I've been begging for that to come over!!!!" said one person in the comments.
While another wrote: "Finally!"
There is one catch: the breakfast item won’t be around forever.
McGriddles are arriving for a limited time only, meaning fans will need to move fast if they want to try the legendary sandwich for themselves.
To celebrate the launch, McDonald’s is also running a breakfast promotion through McDelivery. Customers who spend £15 or more on breakfast items between 13 March and 29 March will get £3 off their order.
So if you’ve been curious about the McGriddle for years, this might finally be your chance to find out what all the fuss is about.
