McDonald’s HQ now has a secret goat’s cheese burger on their menu

Burgers becoming posh is one of the big issues facing modern fast food. While there are loads of cooks who think that everything from confit duck to foie gras works perfectly well inside a bun, purists would rather be seen dead eating anything other than beef and cheese. Both sides have got a point.

Traditionally, the fast food giants have always erred on the side of simplicity. When you’re churning out billions of burgers every single year, it makes sense to use ingredients that aren’t going to prove too fiddly. This is why almost every famous fast food burger follows a set formula, and only contains about five ingredients. However, it turns out that, when they don’t have to worry about selling to the public, even the world’s biggest brands aren’t afraid to branch out and try something wacky.

The McDonald’s global headquarters in Chicago is notable for several reasons. Not only does it house some of the food industry’s most powerful people, but it is also the location of what must be the world’s maddest McDonald’s restaurant. Here, employees and locals don’t just have access to the usual selection of Big Macs, Chicken Legends and French fries. Instead, the kitchen offers items from different McDonald’s around the world. This month, they’ve decided to bring a little Spanish flair to the Midwest.

Part of McDonald’s Spain’s signature menu, customers will be able to enjoy the restaurant’s Goat Cheese Burger, complete with beef patty, grilled onions, lettuce, onion mayo and a dollop of creamy goat cheese. Although the option has been readily available in Spain for some time, this is the first time that American diners will be able to tuck in. Even if it’s only available is you live within reach of the Windy City.

Thanks to the regular rota of international menu options, the goat cheese burger isn’t the only new addition to the menu this month. Also making its American bow is the French favourite Double BBQ Chicken Sandwich – featuring two marinated chicken breast pieces, white cheddar cheese, tomato slices, red onion, pickles, and a Texas-style barbecue sauce.

For anyone who for some reason isn’t excited by the prospect of French barbecue or Spanish goat, the restaurant are also offering some slightly more familiar options. Also making an appearance is an Egg BLT McMuffin from Canada, “Cheese Bites” from the U.K., and a Matcha Green Tea McFlurry from Japan, which comes complete with crushed Oreos and a matcha green tea syrup. There can’t be many better excuses for a Maccies HQ employee to head into the office.

Unfortunately, all of these exciting options will only be available for a limited time, before the relentless cycle of the McDonald’s rota takes effect. Eating at McDonald’s gets a bad rep in some circles. However, if there’s a chance to try everything on the menu, it’s obviously not all bad.
