One consequence of spending every day sat in exactly the same sub-foetal position trawling through Netflix is that it can be difficult to tell when the weekend is supposed to start. In ordinary circumstances, five o’clock on Friday is cause for celebration. Now it could just as easily be a Tuesday, with the added prospect of a Gogglebox episode.
In addition to a vaccine and effective coordinated international response, what the world really needs is an effective way to tell time. Thankfully for fast food enthusiasts, one such method may have already been designed by one of the biggest names in the business.
Jumping on board the charitable COVID bandwagon, the powers that be at McDonald’s HQ have decided to reintroduce the chain’s wildly popular free French fries promotion. According to a report by Chewboom, the offer is set to extend right through to the 28th of June, meaning that the start of summer is looking all the more glorious for any fried potato fans.

Unlike other similar McDonald’s fry giveaways, this recent offer comes with a few caveats. For instance, the chips will only be available if customers make a $1 purchase and are only served in a medium-size portion at selected US franchise locations.
Customers will also have to download and order via the McDonald’s Mobile Order and Pay app in order to receive the fries. Simply head to the deals section and click the button describing the free fries option to participate. It’s worth noting that there will only be one portion of fries available per app user, so any other hungry mouths will have to download and order separately for themselves.
Admittedly, under ordinary circumstances, pseudo-free French fries would probably not be the most exciting thing about a typical Friday. However, at this point, we will take anything as long as it helps us realise when the weekend has officially started.
