McDonald’s might be about to introduce cheesy bacon fries across their stores

Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

I believe it is Newton’s fourth law of thermodynamics that states that “adding bacon to anything makes it ten times more awesome”. Much like the rest of Newtonian physics, this rule is fundamental and unyielding. So it has been proved once again by the latest addition to the McDonald’s menu.

Fast food fans across the internet were suddenly roused last month, when photos emerged of the franchise’s signature French fries, smothered in bacon and cheese. Predictably, hysterical jealousy and excitement soon followed. Available only in select North Californian and Hawaiian locations for a limited time, the new cheesy bacon fries were an immediate hit with fans, prompting a cry for a more widespread release. For a while, it looked like those demands were going to fall on deaf ears.

However, it has become clear that McDonald’s may have secret plans to roll out the new item in restaurants across the United States in the near future. According to a Business Insider report, photos have been observed indicating that “at least some stores have started adding the ‘loaded bacon fry station’ to their point-of-sale systems.” This would be a real boost to hungry, hopeful fans.

As if the situation couldn’t get any more intriguing, Business Insider received a deliberately cryptic response from Maccies HQ when they tried to press them further on the matter. Via email, a McDonald’s representative responded to questions with a coy “I’m afraid I’ll have to provide a cheesy no comment,” before adding that, “At this moment, our kitchens are bacon-ing something together. But we’re not yet ready to share the gouda news.” It certainly seems like something big is on the horizon, for feta or worse.

One possible cause for delay could be concern over how well McDonald’s employees will be able to adapt to the new menu change. According to the messages received by Business Insider, senior figures are “concerned about the possibility of confusion behind the scenes as workers learned to prepare the new dish.” This could apparently be due to a “new type of bacon” being used in the recipe. For a business that prides itself on being able to deliver its entire menu to customers within minutes of an order being placed, any delay to the production line could have dire implications.

Despite the potential difficulties for the McDonald’s machine, early reviews have been almost unanimously positive. Instagram posts have been accompanied with glowing praise for the new dish, with some reviewers praising McDonald’s for “stepping it up”, and others favourably making the comparison between In-N-Out Burger’s legendary “Animal Style” fries.

Whether the fries manage to make it around America is, as yet uncertain. Cheesy bacon fries have long been a feature on other Maccies menus around the world, suggesting that there is every chance that they can crack the code for the US market. Whenever they do manage to make it a national roll out, we can guarantee that they will find plenty of new fans.
