Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Diners have more cause than ever to be fearful this Halloween, with the news that a British supermarket has decided to take trick or treating to the next level. Instead of opting for something tame like TP-ing or minor property damage, Morrisons have decided to declare war on some unlucky customers’ digestive tracts. Bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase “ring of fire”, the store has decided to sell one of the spiciest pizzas ever made. Ready the wet wipes, and be very afraid.

Featuring hidden slivers of ghost chilli, Morrisons’ new Trick or Treat pizza is the ultimate in edible roulette. The chillies are notorious amongst competitive eaters as being among the spiciest on the planet, and weigh in at around 1,000,000 on the Scoville heat scale. As well as the ghosts, tasters will also have to contend with slightly less potent but still eye-watering Scotch Bonnets, which tip the scales at about 350,000 SHU. All things considered, it’s easy to see how one wrong move could ultimately ruin your October 31st.

However, part of the “fun” of the dish is that it isn’t totally horrifying. Alongside the hidden landmines are much more placid ingredients like jalapeño pepperoni, chicken and cheese making sure that every mouthful keeps you on your toes. It’s this pot-luck factor that makes the Trick or Treat pizza so potentially traumatising.

Perfect as a party icebreaker, the 10-inch pizza is currently retailing for just £3, or £5 if you opt for a second. According to Shezad Mahmood, pizza buyer at Morrisons, “The aim is to give customers the ultimate trick or treat. The question is will our customers be prepared to roll the dice and face heaven or hell in a slice?” Anyone who fancies rising to the challenge will have until the 10th of November to give it a try.

Incredibly, the ferocious pie isn’t the only seriously spicy thing on Morrisons’ menu this autumn. The store is also selling some of the most sizzling sausages to ever hit the high street, with their new “Hellfire” product containing Carolina Reaper, Trinidad Scorpion and Ghost Chilli peppers. Clearly, no one told the powers that be at Morrisons that killing your customers isn’t conducive to an effective business model.
