Aldi announces the return of Cuthbert the Caterpillar and completely trolls M&S in the process

Aldi has well and truly done it again.
The supermarket has been relishing trolling Marks & Spencer since the great Colin the Caterpillar and Cuthbert the Caterpillar debate begun.
And despite M&S’ claim that Cuthbert was too similar to their OG, Colin, the supermarket is once again selling Cuthbert on shelves, following a high-court trademark case which was “confidentially” settled earlier this year.
It’s the first time in 15 months that shoppers will be able to bag the £4.99 caterpillar cake, and Aldi is keen to get the message across loud and clear.
That’s why they’ve launched a cheeky PR campaign which sees them advertising Cuthbert’s return on vans outside Marks & Spencer stores across the country.

The vans have been spotted outside branches across Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle and London, with one sporting a caption which reads: “Made by bakers, approved by lawyers”.
The caterpillar cake has had a bit of a makeover in order to legally return, which Aldi announced on social media.
His face is now distinctly different, lacking a sticky-out tongue and big googley-eyes, and he also has a new chocolate bow-tie.
“Cuthbert is back in store with a fresh new (totally legal) look. Get him while you can #Cuthback,” Aldi wrote.
Noting all the other caterpillar cakes in another jibe at Marks and Sparks, Aldi also wrote: “Wiggles, Cecil, Charlie, Calli, Curly, Clyde, Morris and Colin. What you doing later? Fancy coming to Cuthbert’s Release Party? @asda @sainsburys @Tesco @coopuk @waitrose @marksandspencer #CuthBack.”
Oooh, burn.
The Cuthbert cake is back in stores from today (6th June) and is expected to be back online soon, too.
We eagerly await M&S’ response…
