How much do you love pigs in blankets?

You might love 'em enough to stuff ten in your mouth, or even to eat a giant one, stuffed in a Yorkshire Pudding.

But do you love them enough to eat them in ice cream form?!

Yup, Aldi has just announced the release of a pigs in blankets ice cream... because we all love a porky ice cream, right? Right??!

The product lands in stores from today (19th December), and is available while stocks last for a limited run over the holiday season.

The product is the brainchild of Yorvale dairy farmers Ian and Lesley Buxton, who pitched the concept on Channel 4 show, Aldi’s Christmas Secrets.

Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, Julie Ashfield, and Communications Director at Aldi UK, Richard Thornton, were both super impressed by the dairy innovation, and okayed it for nationwide release.

Priced at £2.49 for 500ml, the ice cream is described as "smooth" with a "savoury-sweet" taste.

It's meant to give notes of pork and salted smoked maple syrup.

The show saw the supermarket open its doors to British suppliers pitching festive products, in the hopes of bagging a Christmas contract.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “Yorvale and their Pigs in Blankets Ice Cream really excited us. It’s such a unique product that we can really see doing well at Aldi.”

But will the proof be in the pudding? Or should we say... piggy ice cream?

Lesley, who has been in dairy farming for more than 30 years, said of the product: “We knew it had to be unusual so we set about looking at typical Christmas flavours that might work in ice cream.

“We experimented with different flavour profiles: Brussels Sprouts, bacon and chestnut, Port-soaked cranberries and blue cheese, blue cheese and smoky bacon. Even a Christmas spiced ‘Cuthbert’ the carrot cake.

“But we finally landed on Pigs in Blankets as it was by far the best, and most festive tasting of them all.”

Aldi made an order of 25,000 tubs of the porky ice cream. So, errr, if that's your thing, you can grab it in your local store now.
