It probably feels like the wrong time of year to be talking about Christmas chocolates.

But talk about them we must, because we've just received some rather distressing Celebrations news.

A warehouse worker just shared a picture of this years' tubs of Mars Celebrations, and it looks like they're significantly smaller.

It's not the first time we've seen Celebrations decrease in size, with tubs shrinking as much as 38 percent between 2008 and 2023, according to Metro.

Boxes went from a rather generous 975g to only slightly over 600g in 15 years.

But it's happening again, as they seem to have shrunk even more in the last few months, ahead of this years' festive season.

Worker @ourdaysofhorror posted a side by side of two Celebrations tubs - one at 600g and one at 550g - writing: "Wow! Just had a delivery of stock ready to be shipped out for Christmas. Celebrations tubs getting smaller each year!

"@Tesco @asda gonna get a few disgruntled customers this Christmas. 600g tubs now 550g but price will inevitably go up!"

Big yikes.

Mars later confirmed the news that it had reduced its chocolate box size, telling Metro it was "trying to find ways to absorb the rising costs of raw materials and operations," however "unfortunately the growing pressures mean more needs to be done".

The reaction to the tweet gives an early glimpse of how people feel about the change, too.

"Pretty soon it will just be a plastic box with 1 chocolate," said one person in the comments.

Whilst another replied: "You expected any different? All companies consistently make us pay more for less. Shrinkflation is everywhere, to screw us over while they rake in the profits. @UKCelebrations just happen to have got caught doing it."

"Size shrunk but the money doesn’t funny that!," said a third.

This isn't the first time a big company has made the difficult decision to alter the size of its products.

Cadbury has previously faced backlash for reducing its Dairy Milk bar sizes under 'shrinkflation', whilst McDonald's has faced a similar wrath from loyal customers over the size of its burgers.

Responding to recent disappointment, Mars explained: "Reducing the size of our products is not a decision we have taken lightly but it is necessary for shoppers to still be able to enjoy their favourite Celebrations treats without compromising on quality or taste."
