Some cheery news for you, today.

Costco has launched an 'apocalypse dinner kit' that lasts 25 years... you know, should the world ever end.

The Readywise 150 Serving Emergency Food Bucket is selling across the US at Costco Wholesale locations and online, and it's certainly got people talking.

"Introducing the 150 Servings Emergency Preparedness Food Bucket: This meticulously curated package goes beyond just food – it's about readiness in the face of uncertainty," the product's description on the Costco website says.

Practical or morbid? You decide.

You can watch a clip about the product below:

"With 80 servings of hearty entrees & sides, 30 servings for nourishing breakfasts, and an additional 40 drink servings, ReadyWise equips you for a range of situations,' the blurb goes on.

The meals are dehydrated and freeze dried, promising "a long-term solution" rather than just a "temporary fix," should disaster strike and you can't stock up as normal.

Each kit contains:

  • Pasta Alfredo - 12 Servings
  • Cheesy Macaroni - 12 Servings
  • Teriyaki Rice - gluten-free (GF) - 6 Servings
  • Creamy Pasta and Vegetables - 6 Servings
  • Potato Pot Pie (GF) - 6 Servings
  • Tomato Basil Soup with Pasta (GF) - 6 Servings
  • Chicken Noodle Soup - 6 Servings
  • Brown Sugar & Maple Multi-Grain -12 Servings
  • Apple Cinnamon Cereal - 12 Servings
  • Crunchy Granola – 6 Servings
  • White Rice - 10 Servings
  • Vanilla Pudding - 16 Servings
  • Whey Milk Alternative – 24 Servings
  • Orange Drink - 16 Servings

What more could you need in an apocalypse?

Costing $62.99 (£49) there's no arguing that you get a lot of grub for your buck (prices may vary from store to store).

All you need to 'activate' the servings is water. Safe to say, it doesn't sound like the meals are gonna be super appetising, but needs must.

After coming across the box in his local store, food blogger, Jeffrey Eisner, who runs Pressure Luck Cooking, shared it on his page.

“I guess this is for when the apocalypse hits, which could be any time now, right? Who knows?" he said in a video.

"When the world collapses and caves in, as long as you have your Readywise emergency food supply, all’s right with the world," he joked.

Reacting to the apocalypse box, there was a mixed reception in the comments of Jeffrey's video.

"I like that someone thought to consider our desire for variety during the apocalypse," one person penned.

While another said: "Twenty-five-year shelf life… if the apocalypse doesn’t kill you the preservatives will."

"If the apocalypse comes, where are you getting fresh water to prepare these dried meals and electric or gas to heat them up?," another unsure customer chimed in.

What do you think? A waste of time or a sensible purchase?
