With the Queen’s Jubilee coming up, each and every restaurant, pub and food brand has been getting in on the action, launching promotions and limited edition products to honour Queen Elizabeth II.
To mark Her Maj’s 70th year on the throne, we’ve seen Heinz change its Salad Cream to Salad Queen, McDonald’s revamp its jingle and M&S give its Colin the Caterpillar a royal makeover.
But we might have just found the best Jubilee weekend deal yet. It’s so good that the brand offering it kinda did it by accident…
Let us explain.
For the Queen’s Jubilee, Greene King pubs announced last week that it would be offering up 6p pints in honour of the Bank Holiday celebration.
This was because the pubs cost 6p in 1952, when the Queen first took to the throne. Cute idea, right?!
All you needed to do was say a secret password – ‘1952’ – at the bar.
The only issue is that the pub chain couldn’t go ahead with the idea, because licensing laws prevented them from changing the price.
So, instead of offering 6p pints, anyone that says the password will get their first pint for free on Monday.
Yep, you read that right. Absolutely free beer, and there’s zero catch.
“One of the ideas we had was for a promotion in 400 of our managed pubs where customers could buy one pint each of Greene King IPA for 6p today – the same price it was in 1952,” a representative from the pub chain said.
“We thought this was a great way to celebrate this remarkable occasion, and we’ve been thrilled at the response from customers.
“However, we have some good news for everyone, which is that we will now be giving the Jubilee first pint of Greene King IPA away free of charge today, as we now understand it’s not permissible under the licensing act to charge the 6p.”
You can find your nearest Greene King pub here, so you can make sure to take advantage of the deal.
The deal will entitle people to a pint of Greene King IPA at any of their 408 local pub or flaming grill venues.
Happy Bank Holiday, one and all!
