Just when we thought we couldn’t love Greggs any more, they’ve announced plans to open a 24 hour drive-thru so we can grab a sausage roll whenever we please.
The bakery chain confirmed the news this week, as they stated their plans to open 150 new stores this year across the UK.
Greggs boss, Roisin Currie, said the brand was still to decide where the 24 hour drive-thru was taking place, but added that the first was going to be launching this year on a trial basis.
If it’s successful, it’s safe to assume that more drive-thrus will follow suit, in a bid to cater to as many hungry customers as possible.
There are currently 17 Greggs drive-thru locations around the country, and we can eight to 10 more of them to crop up this year.
However, this is their first foray into round-the-clock opening hours.
Reacting to the news, it’s safe to say that people were excited.
“Greggs 24 hour drive thru YES YES YES YES,” said one.
Whilst another wrote: “24 hour drive through Greggs, turns out the UK isn’t completely crap.”
The news comes after record profits for the brand has allowed them to map out their expansion.
Sales are said to have risen 23 percent last year to £1.5 billion, and pre-tax profits soared 1.9 percent to a healthy£148.3 million.
“We like drive-thrus because they can serve the click and collect customers and people wanting to sit in too,” she said.
“They do take a little bit longer to build because you need planning and to build from scratch.”
Greggs opened its first drive-thru in 2017 in Salford, Manchester.
As well as sausage rolls, customers will be able to pick up doughnuts, steak bakes and anything else they fancy from the bakery whenever they please.
