Here in the UK, we love fry ups and pizzas in equal measure. So, you can imagine the excitement many a moon ago when Heinz announced the launch of a baked bean pizza, selling in Iceland stores.
The frozen meal was a hit throughout the 90s, before disappearing from shelves in 2003. It was fusion food at its finest – and that’s coming from us…
And now, after much pleading from fans, it’s finally returning to stores this month, after a lengthy hiatus.
The pizza is described as having a “light and crispy base with tasty tomato sauce, topped with Heinz baked beans, mozzarella and cheddar cheese” – a true Full English and Italian mashup.
Find out more about it’s exciting return below…
Where can I buy Heinz Baked Bean Pizza?
Yep, there had been rumours that the previously discontinued dish would be making a comeback for a while now, but now the folks at Heinz have confirmed the news we all wanted to hear.
The Heinz Beanz pizza is back!
Sharing the news on Instagram, food blog New Foods UK wrote: “It’s back! Heinz Beanz Pizza is back and will be available at @icelandfoods and The Food Warehouse 14th November!
“We’ve [known] about this for a few months and have been so eager to share this with you all!
“Thank you @heinz_uk for brining this back”.
In the comments, Heinz was the first to share its excitement, replying with a string of smiley faces.
“I used to love these when I was a child!,” someone wrote as they heard the news.
Whilst another gushed: “Omg the memories”.
“This is the dream for me,” commented someone else.
As a fourth wrote: “FINALLY!!! Absolutely loved this when they used to do it!”
The pizza made a return in 2019 to celebrate 150 years of Heinz, but it was only being sold in limited numbers as part of a collaboration with Deliveroo.
It was so beloved during its time on shelves that people even started a Change.org petition in 2017, calling for it to return.
Comments in the petition included an impassioned plea from one Heinz Beanz pizza addict, who wrote: “This country has been starved of greats for many decades and many foods have been stolen from the next generation. This tragedy must come to an end.”
And one from another supporter, which read: “Baked Beanz pizza lovers are in the minority. I think it’s disgraceful how they have been treated. I don’t like Baked Beanz pizzas myself, but I respect that others seriously need them in their lives.”
We’re so happy that those who love baked bean pizzas can finally get their fix again. You’ll have to beat us down to Iceland, though…
The rest of Iceland’s Heinz Beanz range
The fun doesn’t stop at pizzas, either. The pizza is relaunching alongside a whole bunch of other Heinz collaborative products, including baked bean hash browns and a ton more.
The Heinz Beanz Filled Hash Browns are made with a combination of Heinz Beanz and (you guessed it) potatoes, in the breakfast mashup you never knew you needed.
Customers will also be able to get their hands on a classic Heinz Beanz burger, a Texan Style Heinz Beanz Burger, and an Italian Style Heinz Beanz Burger.
Plus, they can order a ton of ready meals made with Heinz beans, including a Smoky Chilli Beanz Bowl, a Herby Tomato Beanz Bowl and a Fragrant Coconut Beanz Bowl.
Of the launch, Sophie Higgins, Head of Growth Platform, New Ventures at Heinz, said: “We are so excited to relaunch our Beanz Pizza. It truly is ICONIC. After seeing the excitement build this year following the launch of our Beanz Burgerz, Beanz Bowls and Beanz Filled Hash Browns, bringing back our Beanz Pizza felt like the perfect follow up.
“We know there are some true fans of our frozen Beanz Pizzas out there and – after a 20-year hiatus from supermarkets – we hope they’re as happy today as we are to hear this absolute classic is available again in stores.
“This is our fourth foray into the freezer aisles for Heinz Beanz over the past year, following the launch of our first frozen ready meals range – Beanz Burgerz, Beanz Bowlz, and Beanz Hash Browns. But we don’t plan on stopping there. Make sure to watch this space for even more exciting Beanzy news!”
Meanwhile, Andrew Staniland, Trading Director at Iceland Foods, added: “We’re delighted to be relaunching the iconic Heinz Beanz Pizza in Iceland stores this month, it’s as iconic as it gets in the freezer aisles, and we’re ecstatic that Iceland customers will be first to try it.
“We expect demand to be high for the 90s product and can’t wait to see what our customers think of the relaunch, along with the additional firm-favourite products from Heinz, such as the recent launch of Heinz Beanz Filled Hash Browns and Heinz Beanz Burgerz.”
