Heinz just launched spaghetti carbonara in a tin - and people have some feelings

We all love a spaghetti carbonara - who doesn't?

But would you eat it from a tin? The good folks at Heinz want us all to do just that.

Yup, Heinz Spaghetti Carbonara tins are now a thing, and they're proving somewhat divisive.

The pasta in a tin has been invented in response to research, which Heinz claims proves younger customers want quick and easy meals which require minimal cooking.

The tinned pasta is made from pancetta, powdered cheese, skimmed milk, cornflour, sugar, and garlic flavouring.

In comparison, a traditional carbonara is made from egg yolks, black pepper, pecorino and guanciale.

It's no wonder, then, that the response has been explosive, with Italian chef Alessandro Pipero telling the BBC: "This dish is the end of civilisation." Yikes.

Speaking to The Express, Ciara Tassoni, manager of Italian Bottega Prelibato in Islington, said: "It's a disgrace!"

Meanwhile, one of her colleagues raged: "In a tin like cat food? I don't know what to say."

Social media has been awash with opinions, too.

"WTF that is just criminal," said one person, after coming across the new drop.

Whilst another wrote: "Is it April 1st?"

"This ruined my day," someone else chimed in.

As another said: "Sorry, but there are some things that can't be closed in a can. Greetings from Rome, Italy, THE HOMELAND OF CARBONARA."

However, for all the haters, there were some who were on board.

"Am I in heaven?" questioned one (rather enthusiastically).

While another wrote: "Amazinggggggggg."

"These are going straight in my basket," said someone else.

A fellow fan simply added: "NEED".

Of course, it's important to remember that Heinz aren't the first ones to adapt a carbonara. In fact, a lot of Brits have already offended Italians by adding cream to theirs, and subbing the guanciale for pancetta or bacon.

You might not be down for a tin of carbonara, but hey, maybe someone else will... and each to their own, ey?
