McDonald’s Australia serves hash browns all day and we’re so jealous

Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Hash browns are one of life’s great pleasures, and we’re firmly in the camp that they shouldn’t just be confined to breakfast time.

And so are McDonald’s Australia, apparently, as we’ve just discovered that lucky Aussies can order a hash brown whenever they darn well please.

Yup, whilst breakfast items are only available until 11am here in the UK, it seems that they have different ideas Down Under.

We couldn’t be more jealous!

The hash browns around the clock are part of an all day menu that Australian consumers are pithy to – and it doesn’t stop at hash browns, either.

As well as the breakfast staple, you can order chicken nuggets, a Big Mac, Cheeseburger or a Double Cheeseburger, as well as fries whenever you like.

We’d take nuggets for breakfast and hash browns for dinner, just for the fun of it.

You used to be able to get the whole McDonald’s breakfast menu all day over in Aus, but they quietly removed this option a few years ago.

At the time, they said they’d done so to speed up the time it took their teams to make meals for customers.

Still, we’d be pretty happy with the options they have over in Australia. Hash browns for the people!

Whilst we wait for Maccies to answer our prayers, we might have to settle with making our own hash browns at home when it’s not breakfast time.

The good news is, there’s a banging recipe for Maccies dupe hash browns online, which blew up during Covid, when restaurants closed.

Yup Michelin-trained TikTok chef Poppy O’Toole took the opportunities afforded by lockdown to share with her followers some simple recipes for straightforward home cooking.

Fortunately for anyone missing the Golden Arches, one of those dishes was a replica McDonald’s hash brown, using only two ingredients and some seasoning.

To make the dish, she suggested assembling a large potato, an egg, salt and pepper. She then grated the potato into thin slivers, before patting them dry on a paper towel.

The potato pieces were then transferred to a clean kitchen towel and squeezed dry in order to get the hash browns crisp when they hit the oil.

You can find the full recipe for that here – and whilst you’re at it, make Twisted’s Giant Sausage and Egg McMuffin too. Why not, ey?
