McDonald’s fan favourites face the chop as boss hints at menu streamline

McDonald’s menus are often subject to change, but the fast food giant’s CEO recently announced that some dishes could be getting a more permanent axe.
Yup, amid plans to help the business’ growth, Maccies bosses have hinted that plans to streamline menus around the world will soon be put into action.
In a note to employees, in which staff cuts were also announced, CEO Chris Kempczinski is said to have noted that menus could be simplified and added that currently things seemed ‘unfocused’.

“We had across the globe 70 different, distinct versions of what a crispy chicken sandwich would look like. I don’t need 70 different permutations of a chicken sandwich,” he said, according to the Wall Street Journal.
One of McDonald’s crowning glories is its extensive global menu, and we don’t yet know how menus would look here in the UK if the chain reduced its focus on local flavours.
Currently, there are an abundance of McDonald’s chicken burgers from around the world, including the McCrispy and the McChicken Sandwich here in the UK, and various other tweaked versions overseas.

In Japan, the chicken burger is seasoned with teriyaki sauce, meanwhile Korea’s McSpicy Shanghai Burger is slathered with hot sauce.
McDonald’s Spain has a McCrispy Honey Mustard chicken burger, with gouda cheese, Batavia lettuce and a sweet sauce, whilst restaurants in Malaysia opts for a lighter GCB burger, made with a grilled chicken thigh, lettuce and a chargrill sauce.
Honestly, the list could go on.
Whilst chicken sandwiches were mentioned, we reckon this is just the tip of the iceberg.
The Golden Arches CEO is likely highlighting how many versions of all of McDonald’s menu items exist globally.
Take the hamburger, for instance…
Japan sells a Samurai Mac served with a roasted soy sauce double thick beef burger, whilst Taiwan boasts a Mushroom Angus Beef Burger, with a French herb sauce and even milk champagne bread.
Meanwhile, Mexico McDonald’s branches offer a Crispy Onion BBQ beef burger, with bacon, onion and grilled cheese.

No final decisions have been made about what items could be trimmed from menus (if any) over in the UK. Plus, we have no word on how soon that’ll be happening. We’ll keep you in the loop, obvs.
