McDonald’s has announced a plan to launch a spinoff brand called CosMc’s.
Yup, if you’re a lover of Big Macs and Happy Meals then you’re in for a treat, because the Golden Arches is expanding its offering with a brand new sister restaurant chain joining its roster.
What is McDonald’s spin-off brand CosMc’s?
Maccies provided details of the new project as it reported its earnings on Thursday, revealing that CosMc’s will be made up of smaller restaurant chains that will be tested preliminarily in a few sites at the start of next year.
“CosMc’s is a small-format concept with all the DNA of McDonald’s, but its own unique personality,” said McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski.
The sites will be themed around Aliens and outer-space, and will exist across a “limited geography” to begin with, with plans to expand this if they succeed.
The chain has added that more news on CosMc’s will come in December.
What is CosMc’s inspired by?
You might recognise the name CosMc, and that’s because it’s based on an old character from the McDonald’s fictional roster, which appeared all the way back in a 1980s ad.
‘Hi-ho Earth people, CosMc here. I popped in from outer space on a trade mission,’ CosMc said in the clip.
CosMc is part alien and part robot, and has six arms. He moved over from outer-space when he realised the earth was filled with burgers and fries from Maccies, and decided to wanted a piece of the action.
It’s not a surprise that the chain is keen to capitalise on CosMc, who is largely a long forgotten McDonald’s character.
Recently, the old fave mascot Grimace has brought them a new surge of sales, thanks to their Grimace Birthday Meal, which featured a bright purple milkshake.
And he’s been going super viral recently, which definitely points to a potential gap in the market for this new venture.
It’s likely the CosMc’s concept will begin in the US, and we don’t have any details on if it’ll be hitting international markets yet.
Stay tuned for more info as we have it!
