McDonald's shoppers are up in arms after a limited edition menu item has sold out in record time.

Yup, just days after it arrived, the Grimace shake is now unavailable following unprecedented demand.

The blueberry milkshake, which was first a hit in the States, launched to celebrate 50 years of McDonald's UK.

It was meant to run from August 28th to September 3rd (aka, tomorrow), but the shake actually ended up selling out three days after it launched.

Announcing the news over the weekend, McDonald's shared a message from Grimace, the purple mascot.

"We sssoldd out the shake :(," they wrote. "We grimacee shakedd too hard, thanksss evryone."

The Grimace Shake cost £2.69, and was made from a blueberry flavoured syrup blended with a creamy milkshake base.

The shake first debuted in the US back in June 2023, and sucked people in with its eye-catching purple aesthetic and blueberry notes.

And it seems it had a similar impact over here, with supplies diminishing quicker than big bosses expected.

"I hate you McDonald’s! I cannot believe you have taken my shake," said one person, rather dramatically, in response.  "I don’t know what to do with myself anymore."

While another wrote: "BRING THEM BACK I NEVER GOT 2TRY."

"Bro restock I want to bloody try it," said third.

There were a few lucky individuals who commented to say the drink was still in stock in their local branches.

But it looks like Maccies has no plans to restock, and the promotion ends tomorrow anyway.

The drink was a tribute to lesser known Maccies mascot, Grimace, who is a milkshake thief, designed to look like the embodiment of the stuff he's trying to nick.

The old saying goes that Grimace is Ronald McDonald's best friend, and while he was initially branded as 'Evil Grimace' went on to become loveable and clumsy.

So long Grimace shake! Gone, but not forgotten!
