McDonald's teases perfumes that smell like their fries

McDonald's just teased fragrances that smell like their french fries - because who doesn't wanna smell like a fast food joint?
Yup, just when we thought Maccies had done it all, from adult Happy Meals to robot restaurants, they've now hinted at delving into the world of fragrance.
The news comes from the folk at McDonald's Japan, with a tweet suggesting a limited-edition release that will come into three scents.
Unfortunately all is not what it seems, as Maccies Japan has since released a statement suggesting the tweet was just a promo for their limited edition Shaka Shaka Potatoes product (which are basically fries with customisable seasoning).
"The image was posted as part of a promotion for the limited-time flavoured fries product, and we would like people to enjoy the scent of fries and flavours. This perfume is not actually manufactured or sold," McDonald's Japan told Food and Wine.
It all makes sense now, as the fragrances all looked to be inspired by french fry flavours they have in Japan (another reason to get jealous, we warn you!)
The first is classic salted fries, like we'd get over here, whilst shoppers have also got a plum nori seaweed salt and a garlic black pepper mayo toppings on offer.
As you can imagine, news of the fragrance created a bit of a social media storm, with some expressing intrigue whilst others found the whole thing a little...odd.

"Yuck..usually wear fragrance to get that stuff out of clothes," said one person on Reddit.
Whilst, replying to McDonald's Japan's Twitter announcement, another wrote: "It's not April 1st yet."
A third wrote: "Huh? Potato perfume?"
As a fourth was a little kinder, writing: "It is an interesting idea, I'd love to try them just to see how accurate it is."

McDonald's Japan certainly had everyone barking up the wrong tree with this social media post, but maybe the reaction is a sign that perfume would be a sellout, after all?
After all, other brands have released fragrances, believe it or not.
KFC Spain dropped a fragrance named Eau D'uardo in 2021, which is described as Colonel Sanders' own scent - ooh errr!
