An ex McDonald's chef has invented a genius way to turn your order into a 'pub favourite'.

The former Maccies worker took to social media to explain that one of your go-to orders could actually be tweaked as a secret menu item – and it sounds banging.

The US chef, Mike Haracz, said that the classic McDonald's Filet -O-Fish ends up a lot like a British fish finger sarnie if you make a few small changes.

The McDonald's Filet-O-Fish A Filet-O-Fish is made from white Hoki or Pollock fish, which is fried in crispy breadcrumbs, slathered with tartare sauce and topped with some trusty American cheese.

But Mike says that if you ask for an English muffin and substitute the tartar sauce for Big Mac sauce when ordering this, it ends up tasting pretty similar to a fish finger sarnie.

(We're not sure we'd swap the tartar out here, but you do you!)

"This is a pretty tasty kind of English pub-style fish sandwich thing," he explains to his viewers.

If you wanna get the secret menu item for yourself, the catch is that you've gotta get your timing just right.

This is because you can only get muffins when breakfast is served, so to be in with a chance of bagging yours, you're gonna have to order at that sweet spot when breakfast is ending and lunch is starting.

Yes, you might get a confused look from the McDonald's chefs, but if they're nice we reckon they'll do it for you.

Mike says that if you're a loyal Maccies customer the chefs are more likely to appease you.

The chef also shared some other McDonald's secret menu hacks, if you're interested.

The chef also advised that switching the buns on a Quarter Pounder burger with cheese was a nifty trick he had up his sleeve.

In this case, he actually suggested subbing in the steamed buns from the Filet-O-Fish, which he claims makes the burger taste ‘beefier’, thanks to the lighter bread.

Another tip he shared was to ask for burger seasoning on your fries, which makes the whole thing 'more exciting'.

Not bad, ey? Brb, we're off to Maccies, sharpish.
