Mustard flavoured Skittles now exist and we’re baffled too

Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Mustard flavoured Skittles have just dropped, in a collab that literally no-one asked for.

Yup, you’d be forgiven for thinking that a yellow sweet was lemon flavoured, but now you could bite down on a Skittle and get… spicy, vinegary, earthy.

Delicious? Right??!

The quirky new Skittle flavour is in honour of National Mustard Day in the US, which is also an occasion we’ve never heard of, tbh.

But what better way to mark the date than with a Skittle? (We assume you can sense our sarcasm…)

National Mustard Day takes place on the 5th August, and to celebrate, the sweetie brand has collaborated with condiment Kings French’s to create the unique product for a very limited time, while stocks last.

French’s have a history of making rather weird foods out of mustard, having previously launched mustard doughnuts and even mustard flavoured beer.

As you can imagine, reaction to the Skittles has mainly been…confusion.

“Since when did I ask for mustard Skittles?,” said one person on Twitter.

Whilst another joked: “Literally NOBODY was asking for these.”

“Dear Skittles, what,” chimed in someone else.

As a fourth said: “This is a prank…right?” Nope. Not a prank.

There were some who were more receptive to the idea.

“Okay, I’m listening…,” one wrote.

As a second wrote: “I would try these for sure I like all the quirky flavours.”

Valda Coryat, North America vice president of marketing for McCormick & Company said: “From Mustard Ice Cream to last year’s viral mustard doughnuts, this year marks the fifth time French’s has gone all out with unique, flavourful innovations to celebrate National Mustard Day.

“With the yellow holiday landing on August 5th, we knew we had to outdo ourselves.”

The Skittles will be available in US supermarkets nationwide. Sadly (or luckily) for anyone based in the UK like us, the mustard Skittles are only available across the pond.

We can’t say we’re particularly gutted about this, although we would have been up for trying a mustard Skittle in a sandwich…
