Sweet and salty is a pairing that works, we all know that – just look at flavours like salted caramel and combos like peanut butter and jam.
But some brands seem intent on pushing that premise to the absolute limit. Case in point, Oreo’s new collaboration with Ritz Crackers.
Yep, the two food favourites have paired up to create a cookie, cracker mashup. Why? You might ask. Well, we’re as confused as you…
The cookie-cracker hybrid is made up of a chocolate Oreo covered in the usual creme and a Ritz cracker slathered in peanut butter, jammed together in one, confused sandwich.
Is it meant to be a dessert or a savoury snack? Again, we’re not so sure. It seems like the folks at Ritz and Oreo don’t, either…
“Over the past few years, Ritz has been exploring innovative partnerships and experiences to spark excitement around our iconic, buttery cracker,” said Alexis Yap, Ritz’s senior brand manager.
“We couldn’t resist the opportunity to collaborate with our friends at Oreo on a snack that’s part salty cracker, part chocolate cookie, and entirely delicious. This is a collab our fans won’t want to miss!”
“At Oreo, we are constantly exploring playful ways to excite our fans, from innovative limited-edition flavours to unexpected collaborations,” said Oreo’s senior brand manager Sydney Kranzmann.
“This Ritz x Oreo product marks our first product collaboration with our friends at Ritz and we can’t wait to hear what Oreo superfans think about this new take on the classic combination of chocolate and peanut butter!”
The product is certainly intriguing, if a little perplexing. But getting your hands on one of the Oreo-Ritz Cracker mashups isn’t going to be simple.
The product is going to be released exclusively online, at OREO.com/RITZ, selling from 12 pm ET (5pm BST) on Thursday, May 26th.
The packs will only be available for American shoppers (soz, fellow Brits) and they’ll be free – you just have to fork out the $3.95 (£3.15) shipping.
Although, if this product launch has peaked your interest and you aren’t able to get a pack, you could make your own version at home.
Brb, we’re off to do just that. We’ll report back if the combo really is actually any good…
