PETA threaten Gordon Ramsay with ‘ancient curse’ for serving octopus

Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

It’s safe to say the folks at PETA aren’t Gordon Ramsay’s biggest fans.

The animal activist group (named People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) have previously called the TV chef out for filming himself pretending to pick a lamb to eat, and now they’re back at it, criticising him for another cause that’s close to their hearts.

In a letter to the 55-year-old Hell’s Kitchen favourite, the group said he was at risk of an ‘ancient curse’ because he was serving octopus in his restaurants.

You can watch a video outlining their points here:

Not only is Gordon at risk, PETA say all the diners he served the octopus to were vulnerable, too.

Dubbed the ‘octocurse’ – PETA believe that it is meant to “slowly turn any human who kills, cooks, or consumes octopuses into a cephalopod” (which basically means an octopus, cuttlefish or a squid…or any animal with “a prominent head, and a set of arms or tentacles”. Nice, eh?)

“Octopuses are hyper-intelligent animals capable of complex thought processes: they can navigate mazes, use tools, and learn how to do such things as unscrew lids simply by watching,” the letter went on.

“They are masters of disguise, they decorate their homes as we do, and they have excellent memories.

“They are also extremely sensitive to pain. In fact, because octopuses’ brains are distributed throughout their bodies, the terror and pain they experience at being sliced up alive or speared to death, common methods of killing these animals, is almost unimaginable.

“Fortunately, dodging the curse is simple: take octopuses off your menus for good and pledge never, ever to eat these clever cephalopods.”

Whilst the curse is obviously meant to be a joke, the points PETA make are still passionate and strongly worded, as ever.

In the video, PETA say that anyone who eats octopuses is ‘basically a cannibal’ because of their intelligence.

When approached by Ladbible, PETA stood by their argument that eating octopuses was inhumane.

“If Gordon Ramsay could make decisions with his heart instead of his bottomless stomach, he’d admit that carving up these highly intelligent, sensitive beings is cruel and unnecessary,” they told the publication.

“As Halloween approaches, PETA is warning Ramsay and people everywhere to change course to vegan eating or suffer the ‘octocurse’.”
