Don’t ask us why, but you can now get a cocktail made of American cheese

Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Say what you want about processed American cheese, but we’re firmly in the camp that it’s actually pretty great.

Melt it on a burger, stir it over your noodles or simply eat it out the packet when you’ve got nothing else in the fridge (who are we to judge?). Whether you like the stuff or not, it definitely serves a purpose.

But we’ve just come across one use of the the cheese we never saw coming. Introducing the Velveeta martini.

Honestly, sometimes we can’t believe what we’re writing, either.

Check it out below:

Yep, the Velveeta martini – or Veltini – is now an official thing, whether anybody asked for it or not. Using cheese from the popular US brand, the martini is being sold in BLT Restaurant Group eateries around the States, branded as an “unapologetic, outrageously cheesy” spin on the cocktail.

It’s made with vodka that has been infused for 24 hours with Veelveeta (mmm, cheesy vodka), olive brine and vermouth, and then garnished with a drizzle of cheese, cheesy stuffed olives and pasta shells.

We don’t know about you, but this sounds like a fromage overload, even for the most ardent of cheese-aholics.

But, hey, who are we to judge anybody’s tipple of choice?

The drink is a little left field, obvs, so it’s only being sold on a limited basis, at BLT Steak New York, BLT Steak Washington DC, BLT Steak Charlotte, and BLT Prime New York, as well as The Florentine in Chicago.

If you live near any of them and they’ve piqued your interest, you’ll be able to grab a cocktail for $15 (£12.56)  between 5pm and 8pm, whilst it remains on menus.

There’s no word yet on how long the cocktail will be knocking about, but Velveeta has said they will assess based on the demand, so we’d suggest being quick if, for some bizarre reason, this sounds like a bit of you.

“As we look to summer, one of life’s greatest pleasures is enjoying summer sips during golden hour,” Kelsey Rice, Velveeta’s senior brand communications manager.

“We wanted to find a way to elevate this experience for our fans even further, by bringing the rich, creamy goodness of Velveeta to a martini in a unique and unexpected way for the ultimate outrageous pleasure.”

“At BLT Restaurant Group, we are constantly looking to develop new and exciting experiences for our customers, so when Velveeta approached us with the concept to create the Velveeta Veltini we were sold,” Scott Cronin, senior vice president for BLT, said in a statement..

“We worked closely with the brand to make this vision a reality, balancing the flavors of a typical martini with the nostalgic cheesy flavor we all know and love from Velveeta, and are excited for fans to experience this delicious over-the-top cocktail.”

If you don’t live near a BLT restaurant and you’re still intrigued by this cheesy concoction then you can try it for yourself via delivery website, Goldbelly, too.

The brand has created a limited number of Velveeta Veltini kits so you can knock the cocktail up yourself, starting at $50 (£41.84) and inclusive of two martini glasses, a cocktail shaker, Velveeta coasters, all the cocktail ingredients and garnishes.

UK shoppers won’t be able to get their hands on the cocktail, so those looking to sink themselves into a boozy cheese coma will just have to try making their own version.

Sorry guys, we don’t think we’ll be providing a recipe for this one…
