Big new, folks! A festival dedicated entirely to chicken wings is coming to London this weekend, and Twisted is judging.

Yup, Wing Fest is back at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from July 26th to the 28th, and there's an outrageous amount of chicken available for you to scran.

This isn't just any chicken wing festival – oh, no. It's the largest in the world, and it's on a tour of the UK, challenging vendors to produce the best wings they can, to be judged not only by experts in their field (ahem, us!), but also by you, the public.

The festival is a platform for chicken wing pioneers to show off their goods, and most importantly win a coveted Wing Fest prize (at this point it’s pretty much deemed an Oscar of the chicken wing world).

This year, 45 vendors from around the UK are gathering to be crowned Wing Fest champs, and an estimated 500,000 wings are expected to be cooked in total. Phwoar, that's a lotta chicken.

They'll be judged on three categories – their buffalo wing, their BBQ wing and their wild wing (which is one with creative, fusion flavours).

The ‘hall of flame’ has housed dishes like Chicken George’s ‘Thai me up u Naughty Chick’, (made of spicy Thai chilli sauce, crushed peanuts, crispy garlic and a lemon grass mayo), Thunderbird’s ‘Sex Panther’ (fluorescent pink, and flavoured with bacon infused maple-bourbon-butterscotch) and Petare’s Venezualan ‘Guava Glazed Chicken’ (garnished with a ribbon of tingly habanero mayo and chilli flakes).

But which new innovations will be unveiled this year?

Through the sheer creativity and variety of the dishes on offer, traders are changing the UK’s perception of chicken wings one whacky idea at a time, cementing themselves as culinary names to watch, and even landing themselves bricks and mortar sites.

Wanna secure a spot? Well, you still can, with tickets starting at 30 quid, here.

This year is a special occasion as the 10th anniversary of the event, so alongside chicken wings you can expect live music, rides and a whole lot more.

Oh, and there's even a hot wing eating competition, if you can handle the heat (for those who can't, watching it is a real laugh, too!).

It's not just London residents who have an opportunity to get in on the fun, either.

Wing Fest will subsequently be heading to these locations too:

  • Bristol, Lloyds Amphitheatre - 6th Sept - 8th Sept
  • Manchester, Victoria Baths - 20th Sept - 22nd Sept
  • Sheffield, Peddler Market - 18th Oct - 20th Oct
