Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

The ordinary Oreo is a classic snack in its own right, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be improved. Even if you enjoy nothing more than a glass of milk and a small black sandwich cookie, you should be prepared to acknowledge that there’s always room for improvement. You never know whether you might discover something even better.

In that spirit, Oreo have unveiled an all new flavour for fall 2019 that looks set to make a sizable impact on the world cookie scene. Departing from their traditional recipe, the famous brand have created a new combination, dubbed “Maple Cream”, featuring a golden cookie and maple syrup-flavoured filling. It might be different, but it certainly sounds delicious.

News of the new cookies actually hit the headlines as early as May this year, though it has taken a while for the story to permeate. An image of the new packaging, featuring a golden maple leaf and stylised depiction of the cookie itself, was leaked by food Instagrammer Junk Banter, who wrote, “My mind and soul may be ready for spring & summer, but my body is permanently ready for fall. Bring on the new Maple Crème Oreos, debuting some time this year (I’d have to guess this will be a late summer release in advance of the fall season).”

After the initial leak, parent company Nabisco have gone on to confirm that Maple Cream is just one of a raft of flavours scheduled for a 2019 release. Already this year, Nabisco have unveiled S’mores Oreos, Latte Thins, Marshmallow Moon and Mint Chocolate Chip varieties. With Maple Cream due out at the end of August, it’s been a bumper year for unusual cookie fans.

Given that they are as yet unreleased, the actual flavour of the new cookie is the subject of speculation. However, when they originally broke the story, Junk Banter suspected that the flavour would be “like the Waffles & Syrup Oreos without the butter flavor, and a more intense maple.” Wherever you stand on the idea of new Oreos, you’d be hard pressed to argue that this doesn’t sound tasty.
