People are saying that Popeye’s new fried chicken sandwich is even better than Chick-Fil-A

Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Whatever you may think of their politics, Chick-Fil-A makes a serious sandwich. Ever since they unleashed the formula of battered breast, marshmallow-soft buns and sour pickle, the American public has been understandably obsessed. Even after years of trying, other fried chicken franchises simply can’t come close. That is, until now.

In an unprecedented attempt to muscle in on Chick-Fil-A’s slice of the fast food market, cult Louisiana chain Popeyes have decided to declare edible war. Instead of sticking to their usual, highly lucrative area of chicken, biscuits and rice, the head honchos at restaurant HQ have decided to branch out and deliver their own riff on the classic fried chicken sandwich. The results have been explosive.

Within a matter of weeks, Popeyes latest item has forced battle lines to be drawn and customers to cast aside long-held loyalties. For perhaps the first time since it originally hit menus, Chick-Fil-A is facing direct competition to the title of fast food’s greatest fried chicken sandwich.

Unsurprisingly given the prize at stake, the public have not been shy about their opinions. What is shocking, however, is that many seem to be abandoning the tried and tested favourite and pledging allegiance to the new kid on the block. A tweet from USA today encouraged followers to reveal which sandwich they preferred, resulting in an almost even split between Popeyes and Chick-Fil-A. Before long, major publications like Business Insider were declaring that “we never need to go back to Chick-fil-A”. Long live the king.

However, like any long-running industry leader, Chick-Fil-A were not going to take their dethroning without a fight. As soon as public opinion became widely known, the Fil-A PR machine ground into action, releasing a formula style tweet stating, “Bun + Chicken + Pickles = all the ❤️ for the original.”

However, determined to press home their new found advantage, Popeyes wryly responded to their rival’s tweet, writing “…y’all good?” as a direct reply. This apparent shade prompted a delirious response from the rest of fast food Twitter, with a flurry of memes and gleeful commentary appearing on the platform.

As in any debate about something tasty, everyone will ultimately have their own opinions. However, regardless of where you stand on the Chick-Fil-A Popeyes argument, no one can dispute that the title of world’s best fried chicken sandwich is no longer undisputed. As Ken Watanabe said in Godzilla, “let them fight”.
