Prince William reveals the fast-food chicken joint he has given the royal seal of approval

As any food history buff knows, few people are as picky as royalty. With clientele who dine only on the world’s most expensive ingredients and torture servers who present a displeasing dinner, chefs and waiting staff have known for ages that catering to the aristocracy can be a risky business.

As the royal family have been dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century, it seems that their dining habits have softened slightly in recent years. Where once only the most opulent and pricey foods would do for a mid-afternoon snack, it seems that most members are now prepared to live slightly more restrained culinary lives. If you take a closer look, it’s clear that this is even more true for the younger generations.

Ever since they were boys, Wills and Harry have hogged the spotlight. Despite never seeming to do anything particularly exciting, excepting the odd ill-advised Las Vegas vacation, tabloids across the world have insisted on cataloguing their exploits for decades. The extent of this coverage has made it clear that they are both perhaps slightly more normal than their increasingly eccentric looking elders in every aspect of life. Food is no exception.

This became even more clear during the Commonwealth Business and Youth forums event in London this year. During the event, Prince William was introduced to Robert Brozin – founder and former CEO of Nando’s. During the exchange, an excited and animated William exclaimed that he thought the chain’s chicken was “very good”. Given the royal family’s famously fastidious and measured approach to communication, he may as well have given Brozin a full blown snog, with tongues.

William went on to elaborate, revealing that his bodyguard was Nando’s “biggest fan” and added, “He introduced me to Nando’s…he should buy a stake in Nando’s.” For a man who is constitutionally obliged to remain neutral on everything, such free-flowing financial advice is extremely unusual.

Despite getting the royal seal of approval, Brozin seemed to be unfazed that William is a Nando’s fan. Speaking to Sky News, he stated that, “I’m not surprised he’s eaten at Nando’s. The beauty of Prince Harry and Prince William is that they’re really accessible and they are guys that go out a lot — I’m very happy that they’ve tried it.”

The revelations over William’s chicken habits caused something of an outcry on social media. Some took the news as further proof that he may be one of the most likeable royals of all time, while others were less than convinced that piri piri should constitute a key part of a prince’s diet. One traitor even used the exchange as an excuse to insinuate that the future king was nothing but a “commoner”. As yet, there has been no official word on when or how this particular rebel will be punished.

Fortunately for fast food and royal family fans, Nando’s is one of the world’s most enduringly popular food brands with locations across the world. This means that devotees everywhere can sit down and see whether Will’s endorsement is worth the fuss. Regardless of whether you agree with William’s glowing review, it’s clear that no one is above enjoying an occasional chickeny treat.
