Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

Ever since ET propelled them to stardom, Reese’s have been the leading name in peanut butter based sweeties. Though plenty of competitors have come and gone, the Reese’s formula of sugar, chocolate and general nuttiness have made them one of the only constants in the fast-paced world of hypo-allergenic snacks. Pieces, Cups, Brownies and Bars have all helped the brand to tighten its grip over the kingdom of peanut confectionary. They are the kings.

However, even kings cannot rest on the laurels. As delicious as the classic members of the Reese’s roster undoubtedly are, the brand are in a constant battle to come up with something new and equally delicious. It only takes one slip up for M&Ms and Snickers to be nipping at their heels. Fortunately for fans of peanut butter and high blood sugar, the geniuses in the Reese’s lab have done just that.

For anyone who feels like their Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups have hitherto been lacking in either chocolate or peanut butter, the business have unveiled two new additions to their line up for 2019 – “Lovers Cups”. Despite the suggestive name, these new treats offer customers the chance to double down on their favourite component of the classic cup, with “Chocolate” and “Peanut Butter” varieties offering twice the serving of their eponymous ingredient. It’s about as indulgent as Reese’s have ever been.

In a press release to commemorate the new products, Reese’s spokesperson Natalie Perera said, “For years, we’ve heard people debate their favourite part of a Reese’s Cup. Is it the chocolate or is it the peanut butter? So, we decided to settle the score and make both sides happy by giving them what they want — Reese’s Chocolate Lovers and Reese’s Peanut Butter Lovers,” adding, “As if we’d actually choose!”

Unfortunately for international Reese’s fans, the new members of the family come with a caveat. For now, the cups will only be available across the US for a limited time, starting from the middle of April. For anyone lucky enough to get their hands on them, the sweets will be available in both regular and king sizes, for an estimated $1.11 and $1.66 respectively.

The news gets even better for Reese’s aficionados in New York City. Insider report that locals there will be able “to experience the new products early with the Reese’s Swap Shop, where they can swap anything they like, ‘from an old toaster to their original roller skates,’ for some Lovers.” This pop-up will be open Tuesday, March 26 and Wednesday, March 27 at 321 Canal Street and provides the perfect excuse to load up on Reese’s related merch. It might be time for the rest of us to take an impromptu North American break.
