The UK’s first “Yorkshire Pudding Festival” is coming

Nothing screams “comfort” like a fresh Yorkshire pud. If the idea of supplementing your dinner with a puffy pancake that looks more like a mutated hockey puck than food seems like a terrible idea, anyone who’s actually eaten one knows that Yorkshire puddings are the crown jewel at the heart of the Sunday Roast. Failure to sufficiently celebrate them is an unfortunate blight on our culinary culture.
Fortunately, roast fans can now rest easy with the news that the country’s first-ever dedicated Yorkshire pudding festival is coming early next year. It’s time to beat back those winter blues with a blanket of something hot, battery and soaked with gravy. February days have never been more exciting.

The event, which is scheduled to take place on the 1st of the month, is taking place at Kirkgate Market in Leeds City Centre, to the delight of northerners everywhere. To make matters more exciting, the event is free to enter, meaning there’s no excuse not to get the whole family involved in a pudding-based binge.
According to the official event description on the Eventbrite page:
“A celebration of the Yorkshire Pudding, an essential part of the Nation’s roast dinners. The Festival will host a range of food vendors creating their take on the humble Yorkshire Pudding, mixing, stuffing and smothering them with a delicious array of home cooked dishes from around the world.”

Included on the line-up are Kang’s Punjabi Box, who will serve their pudding stuffed with authentic North Indian cuisine, and Nan’s Van and Kitchen, who specialise in serving fresh puddings from their converted 70s-style horsebox.
The event will be open from 10:00 to 16:00, allowing plenty of time for pastry over-indulgence. It might not have the variety of many modern street food festivals, but for anyone who wants to experience the full range of what the Yorkshire pudding can provide, YPF 2020 promises to be simply unmissable.
