Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

One customer was left lost for words after misreading the menu at a Gordon Ramsay Steak restaurant and ordering some pretty expensive items.

Going out for a meal is always a great time. No cooking, no washing up, delicious food that you might not be able to create at home – what’s not to love?

Sometimes, a special occasion calls for a more upmarket establishment, but this can often come with a more expensive meal.

Usually, the menu will display the prices next to the meal that you order so you can do some mental maths to work out if you should skip desserts and only stick to tap water.

Taking to Reddit, one unlucky hopeless romantic explained that he was treating his girlfriend to their first vacation since the pandemic, when things took a bit of a turn.

Explaining that they went to Atlantic City, the Redditor said: “We made reservations tonight for outdoor poolside dining at Gordon Ramsay Steak at the Harrah’s.”

On the menu was Wagyu beef, one of the finest cuts of meat you can order, but it was then that he spotted the Kobe beef, and he decided to treat himself, because when in Rome… Or in this case, Atlantic City.

The Redditor explained: “Well, they had real deal Japanese A5 Kobe on the menu – and it was cheaper than American Wagyu! The Kobe was only $35 (£28) for 4 oz instead of $80 (£64) for 8 oz of Wagyu. So I’m a big guy, I’m hungry, so I order 12 oz of Kobe.”

Luckily, he described the meal as “amazing” – which is probably for the best because when the bill came he needed something to cling on to.

His girlfriend ordered Ramsay’s famous Beef Wellington, and they ordered some sides and appetizers to accompany their meal.

The Redditor cheerfully summarized: “All in all an amazing meal and we were glad we could support the restaurant and its staff during these challenging times. And I still couldn’t believe Kobe was cheaper than Wagyu!”

However, it seems that he misread the menu because the Kobe was not in fact cheaper than the Wagyu – oops!

“I had to read the menu again when the bill came, because for two people, the bill was over $600.00 (£480),” he explained, while revealing that he thought that the Kobe was $35 (£28) per four ounces when it was actually $35 (£28) per ounce.

It was then that he realised that he had ordered $420 (£336) worth of steak – so it was a good thing that it was melt-in-the-mouth delicious!

Trying to see the bright side, one commenter revealed that the diner shouldn’t be too disheartened, explaining: “What you bought was a $600 story. For the rest of your life, every time someone says ‘this is good steak’ you can say ‘Yeah, but..'”
