We love a chippy here in the UK, don't we? And, arguably, the scraps are the best part of any fish and chips tea.

But how much would you pay for the scraps alone?

Well, Marks and Spencer is selling Chip Shop Scraps for two whole quid, and a lot of the internet is rather bemused.

The scraps are literally what they say on the tin – little pieces of "light, crispy batter".

We're sure they're very delicious, but two whole British pounds? For the part chippies sometimes discard? Surely not!

The product went viral after one man shared a snap of the Chip Shop Scraps on Twitter, in an image which showed they were worth £40 per kilogram. Yikes.

He showed his distain by simply writing: "*rubs temples*" as the caption.

"TWO ****** QUID. They were free when I were a kid," he added.

"Chip shop scraps are now officially classed as a main meal for the meal deal combo," replied another equally baffled individual.

Whilst another replied: "£40/kg for deep fried flour and water."

When you put it like that it sounds even more terrible...

"£40 per kg of the stuff they'd chuck out?," another exasperated shopper chimed in. "Excuse me whilst I sell bread crusts for a steal."

Marks and Spencer has actually sold Chip Shop Scraps before, but when they landed in 2018, they were £1.05 for an 80g pot (still pretty steep!).

“Our chip shop scraps have proved popular with customers up and down the country since launching back in 2018," an M&S rep told Manchester Evening News.

"Many enjoy as part of their chippy tea, and we also know some customers enjoy sprinkling across a variety of meals, including adding texture to a salad.”

Of course, you could make them yourself for far less, but you do you!
