Twisted: Unserious food tastes seriously good.

In this social media world we live in, a lot of food get undeserved hype.

Some of the buzz is well and truly deserved, of course, but other times, you might be left scratching your head, wondering what all the fuss is about.

We’ve lived through the golden era of superfoods like kale and avocado, Biscoff mania and the annual chaos that pumpkin spice brings with it.

Of course, whether you think these are worthy of fanfare is purely subjective, but we thought we’d ask the Twisted audience the ingredients they think get too much love.

Here’s what they said:

Over on our Facebook page, we asked: “What’s an overrated food you don’t get the hype over?”

And the responses came flooding in, with over 5,800 people flocking to share their thoughts…

“Kale, when I was small it was only ever given to cattle. It’s bitter and horrible,” said one person in the comments.

Whilst another wrote: “Oreos…. The filling is alright, but the biscuit itself tastes like it’s been burnt. On purpose.”

Controversial!

“Red Velvet. Honestly, what flavour is red velvet? Tastes like red chemical cake,” chimed in a third.

As a fourth penned: “Pizza, I like it but the hype is ridiculous, it’s glorified cheese on toast. It would be my last choice of takeaway.”

Oooft. We’re not on board with that opinion – sorry!

“I’m gonna get roasted alive, but bacon,” said a fellow commenter, in yet another divisive remark.

Whilst many others were quick to suggest the likes of avo on toast, sushi, pumpkin spice and mac ‘n’ cheese (blasphemy!).

Of course, you might passionately disagree with all of the above… and that’s okay!

The great thing about food is that it’s personal and nobody has to like what’s on your plate except you.

Still, it’s fun to forget all life’s pressing issues and have an argument over kale sometimes, isn’t it?!
