TikToker reveals time saving hack for peeling potatoes

Ah, potatoes. The most versatile of foods. From hot chippies to crisps to mash, nothing tastes better than your favourite version of the humble tatty. 

The only con? The hassle of peeling the darn things. 

Are you meant to peel the skin off in little bits? Surely there has to be a quicker way. 

Well, we might be in luck, as a woman on TikTok has the answer.

Popular food TikToker @jenniabs3 has the answer for easier peeling.

She explains that the trick is all about making the most of the way a basic potato peeler functions.

In her TikTok, she says: “The reason why potato peelers swivel back and forth is so that you can not only go down but forward when you’re peeling – so that you can peel the entire thing super fast without having to actually lift up the peeler off of the vegetable.”

Essentially, she peels up and then down in a repetitive motion, rather than just doing it one way, not even once taking her peeler off the vegetable.

Clearly, the hack was a shock for many users, with one person writing: “This is why we need cooking classes back in high school! How am I just finding this out at 26.”

Though, others didn’t necessarily agree with the TikTokers way of peeling. 

One person wrote: “Potato peeler swivel back-and-forth because some people are left-handed and some people are right handed that’s the reason!”

Of course, there is no one way to peel a potato, and nothing is going to go disastrously wrong if you don’t follow this method.

However, we’re advocates of any preparation method that’s going to make things a little easier in the kitchen.

Here are some other potato peeling tips to remember too: 

• Hold it in your dominant hand
• Rotate the potato as you peel it
• Make sure to peel away any dark spots on the potato completely
